Catching Up

I have had some projects over the past few months, which I've been meaning to share with my readers here.

Excuse the messy garage. This is my footboard and my awesome experiment with chalk paint. Ka Studio might get into the furniture-distressing business after this project! Next week, I am helping my first customer distress an old trunk, so I'll keep you posted on how that goes.

"Namaste!" That what I named this piece, after the discipline and focus I developed while working on it. Well...that, and the yoga classes I was taking in early winter inspired me just a tad. This is an 18x24 extra deep canvas--the best money can buy. At least at Hobby Lobby. I used oil pastels (my fav) and the tips of my fingers to create what you see here. Dontcha want one?

And finally...I created this colorful cross for a class I taught on my own last month. It was a great group of ladies I have worked with over this past school year. It is just basic acrylic paint on an 11x14 canvas.

Please contact me if you have a project I can work on for you. My email address is KaSoulStudio@gmail.com

Reclaiming The Rock

I love living in Little Rock, Arkansas. It's a great city! One-of-a-kind places are right around every corner. The people are friendly and full of new ideas. And the views are spectacular! It's one of the South's best kept secrets, if you ask me.

Tonight, I hung out with a group of folks who also love this city. We came together to raise money for a non-profit organization called Keep Little Rock Beautiful. Local businesses and artists donated various items to be auctioned off, with all proceeds benefitting the important work KLRB does in this community. Here was my contribution to that auction:

It's called "Reclaiming The Rock," a play on words describing the reclaimed and recycled items I used to create this piece. I began by gluing together 8 large pieces of cardboard to make a 19x27 inch "canvas," of sorts. Then, I decoupaged remnants of fabric, newspaper, grocery bags, used duct tape, and dried rosemary to make a picture of Downtown Little Rock (aka "The Rock," as it has been nicknamed). For the 4 edges of the piece, I glued small, rectangular strips of cardboard in a shingle-type pattern. I'm very proud of it and I hope the winning bidder will enjoy if!

If you live in the Little Rock area and you would like to find ways to become a better steward of this community and the precious resources it provides, please visit: www.keeplittlerockbeautiful.com
